Starting an online store with WooCommerce

What's involved in selling online, what the Business / eCommerce plan covers, and what you'll need to decide.

Published 5 min read

Selling online is more than a “buy” button — it’s products, payments, shipping, and tax all working together. We build online stores on WooCommerce, the most widely used store platform, on our Business / eCommerce plan.

What we set up

  • Your product catalogue — categories, product pages, images, prices, and stock.
  • Cart and checkout that work cleanly on phones, where most browsing now happens.
  • Payments through a gateway you choose (see below).
  • Shipping and tax rules for where you sell — including Australian GST handling.

What you’ll need to decide

A few choices are yours to make, and we’ll guide you through each:

  • How you take payment. Common options are Stripe and PayPal; the mother company’s billing also uses eWAY. Each has its own fees and signup — the money goes directly to your account, not through us.
  • How you ship. Flat rate, free over a threshold, live carrier rates, or local pickup.
  • Your products and policies. Descriptions, photos, returns, and shipping terms. Good product photos make a real difference to sales.

Honest expectations

An online store is a bigger build than a brochure site, and it needs a little more care once it’s live — new products, seasonal changes, the occasional plugin update. Your monthly update hours cover routine changes; we’ll quote anything larger up front. See how your monthly update hours work.

Thinking about selling online? Tell us what you sell and we’ll talk through the right setup.
